Hi Laura,

Sharing with everyone would be good! Don't know if you looked yet but I'm starting to write up separate pages on key green categories on the site. I still have not worked out my exact format yet, but LED Lighting under the Green Topics tab is mostly done.

Also, for my http://www.makingmoneyontheinter.net site I am starting up a new book series for "Online Business Practices". The first book that I am putting the final touches on is called "Protect Yourself from Legal Claims". I go into Limited Liability Company, Copyrights, Terms of Use and Service, Privacy Policies and Business Accounting. All of which if done correctly can protect your business.

I'll send you a copy that you can also pass on to your daughter. This is going to be a big seller because it contains such important topics to protect yourself and family.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jay

Hi Laura,

It is amazing how important the little things are. Just bu buying a couple tubes of caulk and caulking around the windows and doors makes such a big difference, yes even in Hawaii. For cooling or heating getting your house sealed makes a huge difference in your bills and like you say, will improve (lower) your carbon footprint which helps all of us and the planet.

We need to recaulk our windows. It is amazing how fast the seals can wear out on your windows. Our last home, a rental, had single-pane windows. The heating bill was through the roof, literally and figuratively. Weatherproofing your home not only makes sense, but it also reduces carbon emissions. Good for the environment.

Hi Laura,

Yes newspaper and paper products can be used in you compost, however it is better to shred it or cut it up into small pieces first. There area also a bunch of ways to improve your compost for your own organic garden.

I've been reading up and planning for building my green house and shelves for different levels of raised bed gardens for when we move to our place in Arkansas. Then too investigating what composting system will be best with the most nutrients for my food garden vice what I need for spreading in the flower gardens and in the yard. I'm finding out there are some big differences.

I think I'll do some homework and come up with what compost material is best for different used and then write a book. Then I can include my plans for my green house and multiple raised bed levels.

Oh Boy! More work for me to fit into my schedule!!

Hi Laura,

All those are good options. Another is to separate your drain plumbing between sewage (toilets) and grey water (from the tub and sinks) the grey water can be used in gardens and with new improved filter systems, can even be filtered and used to drink if need be. I read all about this on a emergency survival site.

Thanks Laura, Same to you.

We ate over at Lynne's folks house along with her sister, brother-in-law and niece. Of course we ate too much and watched football.
My brother was an avid fisherman and always raised his own worms using worm composting. All the veggie leaves and fruits grass clippings and two dogs to provide the manure. Raised those worms right in his garage in sectional boxes. Worked great!

Excellent information. I think it is also helpful when we purchase paper products from the store to try and buy compostable products or recycled. These can also go into the compost pile rather than the garbage. Composting going full circle. I love it.

I noticed lately when I work in the kitchen that I waste more water than I should. So, I've been more water conscious and try to conserve where I can and simply turn it off when I am not using it. And turn off the water while brushing your teeth, another way I used to waste water. :)

Hey Jay: Happy Thanksgiving! Excellent article. There is also a composting system using worms that will decompose your dog's feces. They are doing it on Oahu. It's a composter divided down the middle with the worms and feces on one side. Holes are drilled in the divider. So the worms decompose the feces over a six month period, then you start putting the feces on the other side and once they are done, they will crawl through the holes to the other side and begin the process again. And it's organic. Cool, huh?
